PRESS RELEASE: Oregon Governor Kulongoski Cuts Ribbon for Solaicx Solar Manufacturing Plant - Silicon Ingot and Wafer Company Brings Jobs, Economic Development to Portland

Santa Clara, Calif. and Portland, Ore. – November 20, 2007 – Solaicx, a leading manufacturer of monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers optimized for photovoltaic applications, today held an opening ceremony for its new manufacturing facility in Portland, Ore., at which Governor Ted Kulongoski cut a ceremonial ribbon inaugurating the plant’s operations.

“Today marks a milestone for Oregon in our commitment to bringing green collar jobs for our world-class workforce,” said Governor Kulongoski. “The Solaicx manufacturing plant is creating new jobs and accelerating the growth in Oregon’s renewable energy economy. We are proud to welcome Solaicx to Portland and are excited to be a part of the company’s continued success.”

Solaicx’s new solar plant will begin production with a manufacturing run-rate of more than 32 megawatts per year, initially creating approximately 100 new jobs. At full capacity, the facility will employ more than 180 skilled workers and churn out approximately 180 megawatts of silicon ingots and wafers per year.

“The state of Oregon and the City of Portland have the perfect ingredients for our expanded production,” said Jeff Jones, vice president of manufacturing for Solaicx. “Portland's highly technical labor force was the main driver in our decision. We look forward to growing our team here in Portland and scaling up our new facility quickly in order to meet the rapidly increasing global demand for solar power.”
